For some Sports Radio stations the season ends after the Super Bowl because they rely too much on external elements to drive the content. The talent mentally check-out often going into their own 'off-season'. Yes, you have to have a 'play the hits' mentality for content but the talent also need to provide the entertainment value. (Off on a tangent for a second - do not confuse the word entertainment with standup comedian. Entertainment means giving listeners something of value for investing their time. And that is what makes them come back.) Almost anyone can do a show when there is a major event driving content - best example is in Philly today after the Eagles lost to the Cardinals. If you can't do a compelling show with that you shouldn't be on the air! The point is the talent must not only be smart about content post-Super Bowl but they have to work hard to create the show. When you hear, "Oh, there's nothing going on today" you know you are in trouble! What are you doing to eliminate the post-football let down for your talent and the audience?
