The recent presidential election is an eye-opener from several aspects. There were an incredible number of first-time participants in the political system bringing a fresh perspective. Second interest level was extremely high. Check the ratings for the political debates both presidential and vice-presidential. Look at the ratings for the national conventions as well as for election night coverage. Americans took a deeper more passionate interest in the presidential election...this was the Super Bowl of Super Bowls.

And the results made a clear profound statement as to what the majority of Americans want. In Chicago's Grant Park there was an amazing level of passion and excitement not seen since the Michael Jordan led Bulls won the NBA Championship. While the sports analogies for the presidential elections are endless but there is also a clear message to radio and sports radio. Listen to the audience! We must evolve and create more diversity with our programming. All that taking the same old tired approach will do is deliver diminishing returns! At the same time this does not mean we deviate wildly from quality programming and being good broadcasters. It means we do not become comfortable with routine to the point it is detrimental. One of the great aspects of radio is creativity. Observe what has happened over the past four months - how can we use that to our advantage and create a compelling product that will be embraced by the audience?

And here's my disclaimer: This is meant to be apolitical not supporting one party or another but to point out a significant change in our country and culture as a result of the presidential election. We encourage your comments and feedback.
