Personalities and play-by-play are the big winners in PPM. There was definitely an impact from the MLB play-offs and the World Series (regardless of a station's format). Even though the Series was Philly and Tampa Bay there is still something magic about baseball in October. Flagship stations also felt the impact of a play-off team. Even though they exited early the Chicago White Sox had a huge impact on The Score giving the station an October to remember. In this case the Sox drove cume and quarter hour for WSCR. The Mets also had heavy impact on WFAN. In the final game of the year (the Mets were still in the running for a play-off slot) share of 12 plus audience during one half hour of the game soared to over a fifteen! NFL football is also having a huge impact on PPM as well in some cases delivering average rating (not share but rating) higher than tradition morning drive giants. Play-by-play with the right teams can be a huge cume drive, almost like an external marketing campaign.

Personalities are the other piece that is impacting PPM. A compelling personality that delivers has an impact especially on Sports Radio. Mike and Mike on ESPN 1000 in Chicago are one of the top Sports Radio shows in the Windy City.

And special events on the station can be a magnet in attracting cume as well. Daily benchmarks are another hook. Stay tuned for more....
